At ‘Innovabiomed’ the heart valve that will change healthcare

AI, robotics, digital health, big data, decellularisation, precision oncology and more on 2 and 3 July at the Veronafiere Congress Centre

Twenty appointments are scheduled with more than 100 speakers among the top experts in the biomedical sector, from research to production, in the sphere of “”Innovabiomed””.
Among the topics of interest is a biomimetic tissue heart valve that makes it possible to eliminate the dependence on current anticoagulant therapies required by mechanical valves and ensures greater durability than a bioprosthesis.
This is one of the innovative technologies that will be presented during the second edition of “Innovabiomed”, the network place for biomedical innovation scheduled to take place at Veronafiere on 2 and 3 July, in which the “Swiss Federalism” association is a partner, and which will also deal with artificial intelligence, robotics, digital health, big data, decellularisation and precision oncology.
The innovative valve will be illustrated by Dr. Antonio D’Amore, Research Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh and Group Leader in Tissue Engineering for the Ri.MED Foundation in Palermo, during the conference “Tomorrow is already a reality”.

A valve prosthesis technology for valve replacement

From basic research to innovation, on the road to multidisciplinarity. Excellent examples of new paths and ongoing projects for the Life Science sector’ to be held on Saturday 3 July at 11.15 a.m.
The distinguished physician, who has been affiliated with the Ri.MED Foundation for ten years, has developed a unique wealth of expertise in the field of tissue engineering, as well as numerous innovative technological platforms, which is also evident from the number and quality of his scientific publications and patents already filed.
The aim of his work is to develop and introduce into clinical practice a valve prosthesis technology for heart valve replacement that eliminates the dependence on current anticoagulant therapies required by mechanical valves and that ensures greater durability of a bioprosthesis, in order to improve the quality of life of patients undergoing valve replacement.

Innovabiomed’s 2021 programme

It has already tested the use of temporary support structures (scaffolds) combined with the patient’s own cells: this support is designed to degrade and be replaced by tissue produced by the patient himself.
This sensational line of research was instrumental in the development of innovative polymer processing technologies that can also be applied in other contexts, such as the mitral valve prototype.
Last December, the European Research Council awarded Professor Antonio D’Amore the 2020 Consolidator Grant, considered the most competitive and prestigious award in the EU.

From bio-printing and 3D solutions to “smart” materials

Innovabiomed will showcase some of the most interesting innovations in the biomedical field, including: 3D printing and bio-printing solutions, systems for the visualisation and analysis of clinical data, latest generation technologies for orthopaedics and rehabilitation, “intelligent” materials for the production of medical devices as well as advanced solutions for the design and prototyping of medical devices.
The event, organised by Veronafiere in collaboration with distrettobiomedicale.it, will be held in presence.
The two-day programme includes conferences, round tables, workshops and a business area with the presence of highly innovative companies.
