“Patrouille des Glaciers” on the march for future editions

Agreement between the Swiss Confederation, Valais and the ASPdG Association for the international military ski mountaineering competition open to civilian teams

The Swiss Confederation, the State of Valais and the Association de soutien, de gestion et de promotion de la “Patrouille des Glaciers” (ASPdG) have signed a roadmap for the organisation of the next editions of the “Patrouille des Glaciers”.
It provides for the creation of a foundation that will take over the main tasks of the current ASPdG. The latter will transfer most of its assets as well as the trademark and other intellectual property to this foundation.

The Swiss government’s commitment will continue until 2028

For its part, the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) will continue to ensure the organisation and management of the race. The Confederation has committed itself to this until 2028.
In order to ensure the long-term running of the Patrouille des Glaciers (PdG), the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS), the Department of Security, Institutions and Sport (DSIS) and the Association de soutien, de gestion et de promotion de la “Patrouille des Glaciers” (ASPdG) have decided to review their form of cooperation.
The three parties have drawn up a roadmap setting out the framework conditions for the next four editions of the PdG, the Swiss Army’s world-famous international military ski mountaineering competition, which is also open to civilian patrols.

Social networks & social media: there will be much more Switzerland…

From 2024 onwards there will be a charitable foundation

For the 2024 edition of the PdG and subsequent editions, the timetable envisages the establishment of a charitable foundation.
Its purpose is to coordinate the promotion and marketing of the event. To this end, it will be able to conclude service mandates with partners such as Valais Wallis Promotion.
Most of the current assets of the ASPdG as well as the brand name and other intellectual property will be transferred to this foundation with a view to promoting the PdG and providing it with financial protection. The Board of Trustees should be appointed by the State Council.

The DDPS will take care of the organisation and management of the race

As is currently the case, the DDPS will take over the organisation and management of the race. The army has committed itself to this until 2028.
However, the DDPS is of the opinion that it cannot organise the PdG on its own, so the participation of the state of Valais is necessary. The various aspects of cooperation between the DDPS and DSIS are regulated in an agreement.
With regard to the 2022 edition of the PDG, the preparatory activities by the army are proceeding as planned.
During this transitional phase, a strategy committee and a management committee will be set up, whose chairmanships and secretariats will be guaranteed by the State of Valais. These committees will take over most of the tasks that have been carried out to date by the ASPdG.
By signing the roadmap, the DDPS, DSIS and the ASPdG are demonstrating their commitment to the Patrouille des Glaciers and the importance they attach to it. The necessary resources and structures are thus made available to ensure the long-term success of the SGP.
