UN in Brief

The United Nations Organization (UN) has 193 member states and is the only organization in which a multiplicity of issues of global significance can be discussed involving all countries and stakeholders by having unparalleled legitimacy worldwide.

Established in 1945, at the end of World War II when nations were in ruins by the representatives of 50 countries who met in San Francisco, California, from April 25 to June 26, 1945 and proceeded to draft and sign the Charter of the United Nations, creating a new international organization with the aim of preventing another world war. It was to replace the old “League of Nations” that had been active since 1920.
