Swiss electricity production is monitored in detail

More than 110,000 electricity production plants in the Confederation, renewable or not, are sampled on the website bfe.admin.ch/produzioneelettrica

In Switzerland it is possible to know with one click the distribution of power generation plants on the national territory.
For the first time, the Federal Office of Energy publishes complete data on almost all plants in Switzerland.

Information on the location, technology, output and other parameters of more than 110,000 plants is available at bfe.admin.ch/production.
The data is also freely accessible as Open Government Data.

Reorganisation due to the Energy Strategy 2050

The Energy Strategy 2050 envisages a gradual restructuring of the Swiss energy system.
One of the main pillars of the Strategy is the expansion of renewable energies, which can now be transparently represented and analyzed on the ground thanks to basic geodata on power plants.

More than 100,000 photovoltaic systems monitored

In addition to the location of the system, the data also shows the output in kilowatts (kW) and the date of commissioning. Today, for example, it is possible to access data on 100,000 photovoltaic systems.

The municipalities and cantons can use these basic geodata to monitor the expansion of electricity production from renewable sources at the local level against its potential and, if necessary, take measures to accelerate it.

The legal basis for this new set of basic geodata are the revised Energy Ordinance (EO), which came into force on January 1, 2021, and the Geoinformation Ordinance (GIO).
The database consists of all installations registered in the Swiss system of guarantees of origin, which is managed by Pronovo AG.

More than 30 kilovolts (KVA), and you are sampled

These include all installations with a capacity greater than 30 kilovolts (KVA) and smaller installations (starting at 2 kW) that have been registered on a voluntary basis for guarantees of origin.

Switzerland will aim to switch from diesel to electric buses

The data also includes installations that benefit from a feed-in tariff, a one-off payment, additional cost financing or an investment subsidy.
Only power plants that are in operation are published. The data is continuously updated and is available as Open Government Data.
