Only 100 days left – Send now the best projects for the Watt d’Or 2023

On January 12, 2023, the prestigious Watt d’Or award will be presented for the sixteenth time. The Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) is looking for outstanding, innovative and pioneering energy initiatives and projects for the award of the prestigious Watt d’Or 2023 prize. In short: we are on the hunt for the best energy performance! The deadline for submitting projects is mid-July 2022. More information is available at www.wattdor.ch.

Only applications that fall into one of the following four categories will be accepted for the Watt d’Or 2023 competition:

  1. Energy Technologies
  2. Renewable energies
  3. Energy-efficient mobility
  4. Buildings and space

The coveted prize will be awarded to anyone who can convince the distinguished jury with a project that is innovative, surprising, courageous and suitable for imitation. In particular, the winning project should make a special contribution to Switzerland’s energy future.

Targets

Every year, numerous strategies are implemented in the Swiss energy sector, various projects are carried out and innovative products are launched on the market. All of these initiatives contribute to increasing the share of renewable energies and curbing overall energy consumption in our country. Watt d’Or recognizes large-scale projects of a model nature as well as individuals and organizations that have played a significant role in the implementation of these initiatives. The objective of this award is to

  1. raise the level of awareness of the projects, people and organizations that have participated in them;
  2. Reward projects, people and organizations by conferring a sort of “quality label” (“best practice” / “best of”);
  3. Motivate and provide impulses to carry out new projects;
  4. encourage people to follow models;
  5. outlining future trends;
  6. promoting the objectives of Swiss energy policy.

Criteria

The 2023 Watt d’Or allows for awards to projects, individuals, and organizations that meet the following criteria:

  1. The projects were implemented or the activities of the persons/organizations took place during the period August 2021 – July 2022.
  2. The projects are innovative with respect to the current state of the art.
  3. The projects pursue the objectives of Swiss energy policy and are efficient in terms of comfort, profitability and social aspects. Priority is given to projects that comprehensively cover energy, environmental, technological, economic and other aspects.
  4. The projects or activities of the persons/organizations should not only excite experts in the field, but also be understandable and convincing for the general public.

Jury – Selection of projects, people and organisations to receive awards

For each category, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy appoints a panel of proposers to examine the proposals submitted and to propose good projects. These are experts from various fields who undertake this task independently.

The proposers select the best projects from the various proposals submitted by the experts or third parties and submit them with a written commentary to the jury for evaluation.

The proposals selected by the experts are submitted for evaluation to the jury, which is called upon to select the best projects. The jury consists of qualified representatives from research, the cantons, industry, architecture, trade associations and environmental organizations.

Are you participating?

The competition is open to municipalities, cities, cantons, associations and corporations, individuals, large and small businesses, scientific, social, environmental, political and cultural organizations. The projects submitted must be current, i.e. the main activities planned must take place between August 2021 and July 2022. The relevant applications must be submitted by July 15, 2022 to the FOE using the online form.
