After six years… the “Swiss Aviation Platform”.

The actors of the national aviation, from Swiss to the four airport cantons, met virtually with Federal Councillor Simonetta Sommaruga

In a virtual meeting held on April 23, representatives of the “Platform for Swiss Aviation” discussed the consequences of the pandemic and possible ways out of the current crisis.
The question of how air traffic can become more climate friendly in the future was also addressed.
The exchange took place under the auspices of Federal Councillor Simonetta Sommaruga.
The crisis due to COVID19 is having a serious impact on aviation.

“Blanket testing and increased travel options.”

Since the start of the pandemic, passenger numbers have fallen sharply, resulting in lost revenue for airlines, airports and related businesses, explained aviation industry representatives, who then proposed introducing blanket testing instead of quarantine rules and giving more freedom to travel to people who have already been vaccinated.

The Federal Council calls 2021 the “Year of the Railways”.

The Federal Councillor stressed the enormous importance of the aviation sector.
The Federal Council and the relevant offices are putting all their strengths into managing the crisis and supporting the economy and the companies concerned.
The participants also discussed the contribution of aviation to climate protection.
Established in 2005, the “Platform for Aviation Switzerland” provides a forum for meeting and exchange on key issues and the framework conditions for Swiss aviation.

Invited Zurich, Geneva, Basel-Stadt and Basel-Country

At the invitation of Simonetta Sommaruga, representatives of the national airports and the home cantons of Zurich, Geneva, Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft, the airlines Swiss and EasyJet Switzerland, the air navigation control service Skyguide and the industry’s umbrella association “Aerosuisse” participated in the virtual meeting.

Representatives from the Federal Offices of Civil Aviation, Environment and Public Health were also present at the meeting.
The last Platform took place in 2015.
The Councilwoman announced that in the future the meeting will take place annually, as it is important to entertain a regular exchange.
