Public funds for nine Swiss film festivals

The Federal Office of Culture will sign a 4 million franc performance contract for the period 2022-2025 with well-known film festivals

The Federal Office of Culture (FOC) will enter into a performance contract for the period 2022-2025 with nine Swiss film festivals.
The amount earmarked for festivals of national and international importance amounts to four million francs annually, representing an increase of 18 percent for the next four years as provided for in the culture message for the period 2021-2024.
Eleven festivals applied for a public call for applications for structural contributions.

Five experts/experts and as many analysis criteria

Their applications were examined by five experts/experts, taking into account the criteria established in the call for applications: uniqueness and quality of the programs; independence, continuity and professionalism of the organization; national and international appeal; development strategy, digitization, use of resources; promotion of Swiss film creation; diversity and sustainable use of resources.
On the basis of the evaluations, the FOC selected nine festivals for structural contributions, giving particular weight to national and international appeal, the promotion of Swiss film creation, the approach to digitization and measures to promote diversity and sustainability.

From 1.7 million CHF in Locarno to 120 thousand CHF in Geneva

All nine festivals were already supported by the Federal Office of Culture. The FCO will enter into a performance contract for the period 2022-2025 with the following festivals: Festival del Film Locarno, CHF 1,730,000 annually; Visions du Réel, Nyon, CHF 570,000 annually; Solothurner Filmtage, CHF 460,000 annually; Zurich Film Festival, CHF 440. 000 per annum; Fantoche, Internationales Festival für Animationsfilm, Baden, CHF 170,000 per annum; Festival International de Films de Fribourg, CHF 170,000 per annum; Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, CHF 170,000 per annum; Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival, CHF 170,000 per annum; Geneva International Film Festival, CHF 120,000 per annum.
