In Switzerland the first truck equipped with the “EU Telepass”
A lorry equipped with an EETS device, designed for the payment of tolls in Europe, crossed the Swiss border on 15 January in Chiasso
SET is the European Union’s Europe-wide compatible toll payment service and is now also available in Switzerland. This simplifies and speeds up freight traffic at the border. The integration into the EETS system represents an important step in the DaziT digitization and transformation program.
The Federal Customs Administration (FCA) has created the conditions for integrating Switzerland into the EETS (European Electronic Toll Service), the EU-wide compatible toll service.
Switzerland’s booming alpine economy depends on partnerships
A truck equipped with an EETS device, which is intended for the payment of tolls in the European area, crossed the Swiss border on January 15 in Chiasso.
Thanks to this integration, drivers of foreign trucks no longer have to stop at the border to pay the performance-related heavy vehicle fee (HVF).
This can now be done entirely digitally by means of a small recording device in the vehicle.
To this end, the FCA is now working with private detection service providers, known as EETS providers. The first provider, Telepass, has passed the multi-stage approval procedure.
According to the action plan of the DaziT transformation program, the replacement of today’s HVF detection system for Swiss vehicles (emotach) is planned for the beginning of 2024.
The list of providers of the European Electronic Toll Service is continuously updated and published on the FCA website.
