Judaism and Muslimism enter the Swiss Army

Partnership with the Federation of Israelite Communities and the Federation of Islamic Organizations for the Spiritual Care of the Swiss Military

The Spiritual Assistance of the Military is confronted in the militia army with a reflected image of society.
In order to be able to cope adequately with this diversity, it continues on the path it has taken and concludes new partnership agreements with the Swiss Federation of Israelite Communities (FSCI) as well as with the Federation of Islamic Organizations of Switzerland (FOIS).

The objective of these partnership agreements is to create added value together for the benefit of the military, which in its diversity represents a mirror image of society.
In this way, all parties involved clearly demonstrate that the same rules apply to all religious communities in the field of spiritual care for military personnel, which are based on the foundations developed by the army.

A convinced choice of FSCI as well as FOIS

Both FSCI and FOIS have discussed these bases in depth within their ranks and support them wholeheartedly.
With these new partnership agreements, the Army shows that spiritual aid to the troops enjoys broad support and that Army Spiritual Assistance is able to help all military personnel appropriately and competently.

Army Spiritual Care applies the principles of diversity and inclusion in its ranks: military chaplains from very different backgrounds who are committed to the same values experience them firsthand.

The effect of the first steps taken in 2020

In March 2020, the Chief of the Armed Forces issued instructions concerning the assistance, help, and support provided by the Armed Forces Spiritual Assistance Service, laying the foundation for the Armed Forces Spiritual Assistance Service to enter into partnership agreements with churches and religious communities, provided they are willing to fully share the basis and the way of working of the Armed Forces Spiritual Assistance Service.

Swiss Districts? Still children of a minor federalism

Collaboration is deepened on this basis. The experiences of the last year confirm that the path taken is the right one and that it still has to be followed.
