Come un soffio di primavera
sei entrata nella mia vita,
sto qui solo a domandarmi
chi sei tu venere nera?
Chi diede luce al tuo sguardo,
dolce danzatrice del mistero
che mi sconvolge il cuore.
Ritrovo in te la perduta gioventù
illudendomi di bere l’acqua della tua fonte,
per accarezzare con il pensiero
quella sirena con la pelle ebano,
e il profumo di verbena.
Ti sarò per sempre amico, padre o fratello…
Anche se le nostre strade si avvicinano e si allontanano,
aspetto con ansia lo squillare della tua voce
e al tramonto della mia vita,
sto sognando di poter baciare le tue mani vellutate.
Che io possa maledire la triste mia sorte
di essere nato molto prima di te.
Vorrei essere Petrarca
per scrivere le più belle poesie
e donartele come una rosa.
Ma sono un povero menestrello
che può gridare ancora al mondo
la sua sventura.

Like a breath of spring
you came into my life
I stand here just wondering
Who are you black Venus?
Who gave light to your gaze
sweet dancer of the mystery
that unsettles my heart.
I find in you the lost youth
deluding myself to drink the water of your fountain,
to caress with thought
that mermaid with ebony skin
and the scent of verbena.
I will forever be your friend, father or brother….
Even as our paths draw nearer and farther apart,
I long for the ringing of your voice
And in the twilight of my life
I dream of kissing your velvety hands.
May I curse my sad fate
That I was born long before you.
I wish I were Petrarch
to write the most beautiful poems
And give them to you like a rose.
But I am a poor minstrel
who can still shout to the world
its misfortune.
