Electronic Highway Vignette Coming Soon

Starting August 1, 2023, an electronic sticker (e-vignette) will be introduced as part of a dual system for the use of Swiss national roads in addition to the classic adhesive sticker.

Since its introduction in 1985, the fee for the use of Swiss highways and semi-highways has been collected in the form of a sticker costing 40 Swiss francs.

The sticker is valid from December 1 of the previous year to January 31 of the following year. All motor vehicles and trailers registered in Switzerland or abroad, which are not subject to the heavy traffic tax, are subject to the sticker. In principle, all motor vehicles and trailers up to 3.5 tons are subject to the marking requirement.

The introduction of the electronic sticker allows the collection of the said tax in electronic form so that, drivers of vehicles, will be able to choose between the adhesive sticker and the electronic sticker in the future.

Electronic sticker associated with license plate

Unlike the adhesive sticker, the electronic sticker is not associated with the vehicle but with the license plate. This benefits holders of interchangeable license plates and those who buy a new vehicle during the year. Starting August 1, 2023, it will be possible to purchase the electronic tag through a special web portal of the Federal Customs and Border Security Service (FCOB), regardless of location and time. The duration of validity (from December of the previous year to January of the following year) remain unchanged for both variants.

Before the introduction of the electronic tag scheduled for August 1, 2023, the UDSC, as the competent authority, will provide the necessary information concerning the sale and implementation.

Users can choose between two types of redemption:

the current adhesive sticker, which must be properly affixed to the vehicle and serves as proof of paymentthe electronic sticker (e-vignette – starting August 1, 2023), which can be purchased from the online store of the Federal Customs and Border Security Service (FCOB) by registering the vehicle’s license plate.

The selling price of the sticker abroad is:
