700 specialised operators at the closing of “Innovabiomed”
Great success in terms of attendance and 20 events with 100 multidisciplinary speakers for the biomedical innovation network place
The second edition of “Innovabiomed”, the network place for biomedical innovation that on 2 and 3 July at the Palaexpo Congress Centre in Veronafiere involved researchers, doctors, stakeholders, medical device manufacturers and companies operating in the health sector to connect different disciplines and skills useful for the development of the sector, closed with the presence of over 700 specialised operators.
More than twenty meetings were held over the two days of the event with in-depth discussions by 100 speakers under the banner of multidisciplinarity, highlighting innovations ready for use in the medical-hospital context or illustrating research projects destined to develop technologies applicable in the near future. More than 40 exhibitors will be present, including companies and organisations committed to innovation. “Innovabiomed” will return in 2022 on 24 and 25 May, leaving the formal biennial frequency.

The Ri.MED Foundation wins the Innovabiomed Award 2021
The Innovabiomed Award 2021 was won by the Ri.MED Foundation of Palermo. The Scientific Committee of the event gave the following reasons for its choice: “This organisation responds to the demand for efficient healthcare connected to all elements of the health chain. It is an example of convergence between health, science and industry with a strong social impact and high technological characterisation”.
The prize, worth 10,000 euros, will be used to finance an internship in the scientific field. The Ri.MED Foundation, born from a public-private partnership between Italy and the USA, conducts biomedical and biotechnological research projects, promoting the rapid transfer of innovative results into clinical practice.

Three main matrices: tissue, bioengineering, drugs and more
There are three main matrices: tissue engineering and bioengineering, drug and immunotherapy research and development, and regenerative medicine.
Receiving the award in Verona on behalf of the Ri.MED Foundation was Professor Gaetano Burriesci, Group Leader in Bioengineering and Medical Devices: “I want to see this award as confirmation that our commitment to creating a culture of biomedical innovation is already beginning to bear fruit. It was also very encouraging to hear that we are just one of the many Italian companies that are driving this area forward.
And again: “In this regard, a special thanks goes to the organisers of the event, who, despite the difficulties of this period, were able to successfully set up this networking opportunity between the biomedical skills present in Italy, a comparison that is essential today to build a competitive system that makes the best use of the great potential present.

An organisational struggle against time thanks to the latest Prime Minister’s Decree
The President of VeronaFiere, Maurizio Danese, comments on the results and objectives of this edition, organised in a very tight timeframe and proposed as soon as the latest Prime Minister’s Decree also gave the go-ahead for conference events:
“COVID has taught us that we must put the health industry increasingly at the centre of our development and therefore of our future. This is the context for Innovabiomed, the second edition of which we were keen to present. The theme chosen this year was also symbolic: ‘Beyond the emergency’. A great organisational effort with the aim of re-proposing the meeting between scientists and researchers of international level, institutions, important companies and operators in the biomedical sector, to give our contribution in this particular historical moment to the growth of such a strategic sector”.
