Italian Culture in Brief

Italian culture is highly appreciated by foreigners; first and foremost, its gastronomy, folklore, architecture, art, fashion, and the lifestyle of its citizens are objects of admiration.

Among the things for which the world immediately connects certain products, personalities, or activities to Italy are:

  • Espresso coffee, pizza, and pasta
  • The length and quantity of a lunch or dinner that can last hours making it a real social activity
  • An enviable artistic heritage with as many as 5,000 museums, 12,000 libraries, 65,000 churches, 30,000 historic houses, and 40,000 castles
  • Personalities such as Caravaggio, Christopher Columbus, Dante Alighieri, Leonardo Da Vinci, Enrico Fermi, Galileo Galilei, Luigi Pirandello, Alessandro Manzoni, Giacomo Puccini, Giuseppe Verdi, Alessandro Volta, Marco Polo but also Totò, Anna Magnani, Sofia Loren, Mina, Alberto Sordi, Riccardo Muti, Luciano Pavarotti, Sergio Leone, Bud Spencer (Carlo Pedersoli) and Terence Hill (Mario Girotti) etc.
  • The square as a fundamental point for the inhabitants’ sociability
  • The gastronomic heritage known globally as the “Mediterranean diet
  • The “Made in Italy” sought after for its quality with a market worth billions
  • Recently a study by the Rome Business School, ranked Italy among the 10 European countries offering a better tourist-digital experience: 73% of museums allow online visits and have increased digital services and virtual reality activities.

Something of Italy can be found almost everywhere in the world from the emigrated people and their descendants, in restaurants, surnames, menus etc we often find something that recalls the Italian language and/or culture
