A seminar for a better understanding of federalism

Continuing education for civil servants, politicians and the media on Switzerland, its foundations and functioning in Schwarzenberg in January 2022…

In cooperation with the ch Foundation and other partners, the Institute of Federalism (IFF) at the University of Fribourg offers continuing education on the Swiss federal state, its foundations and functioning.

The seminar is aimed primarily at employees of public administrations at the federal, cantonal and municipal levels, politicians and media professionals.

The IFF of the University of Fribourg remains in the front line

How are the responsibilities shared between the Confederation, the cantons and the municipalities? Who bears the costs of the state’s tasks? What are the possibilities for cooperation? The continuing education organized by IFF answers these and many other questions.

Lectures, working groups and collective discussions will clarify the fundamentals of Swiss federalism and explore specific topics in greater depth.

The seminar is an initiative of the ch Foundation. The cantons consider it important that administrative staff, politicians and media professionals have adequate knowledge about federalism.

However, institutionalized continuing education in this area was still lacking. The ch Foundation therefore invited the IFF to organise a seminar for reflection on Swiss federalism.

The project is also sponsored by the Council of States, the Federal Office of Justice, the Association of Swiss Communes and the Union of Swiss Cities.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 edition of the seminar had been cancelled. In July, however, it was announced that the next event will be held in January 2022 in Schwarzenberg, in the Lucerne Countryside District of the canton of the same name.
