Two themes have characterized SFIVET in the past year: accelerating digital transformation in the wake of the COVID19 pandemic and adopting the SFIVET Act.
The year 2020 was an important milestone for SFIVET: Parliament unanimously accepted the new SUFFP Act, sending a signal for strong VET and for Switzerland’s economic and educational system.

Acceleration also due to digitization

The law regulates the tasks, collaboration, teaching diplomas and other titles, organization, personnel law, financing, Federal oversight, sanctions, and processing of personal data.
When it goes into effect, the College will become the Federal College of Professional Education (SUFFP). Institutional accreditation is expected in 2022.

As with other institutions, the challenge posed by the COVID19 pandemic has been historic for SUFFP, greatly accelerating digitization.
SFIVET introduced online courses for the tools and skills needed and to accompany the digital transformation.
The abrupt shift to distance learning and digital technologies also promoted innovation, with faculty developing new forms of teaching that could be used in hybrid formats in the future.

A final deficit of “only” 0.796 million francs

With revenues of CHF 48.478 million and total expenses of CHF 49.274 million, the 2020 financial statements end with a deficit of CHF 0.796 million.
This result is attributable to lower revenues due to the pandemic and higher costs compared to the previous year.
Equity, which can be used to offset losses and finance projects and investments, amounted to CHF 4.202 million at the end of 2020.
