Switzerland and six other EU countries together for the Nutri-Score
Transnational coordination mechanism on the Nutri-Score with Bern and the authorities of Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Spain
The introduction of Nutri-Score will be coordinated internationally: the competent authorities of Switzerland as well as Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Spain have announced the establishment of a transnational coordination mechanism.
The goal is to facilitate the voluntary use of the Nutri-Score food characterization system. Collaboration will take place through a Steering Committee and a Scientific Committee.
Steering and scientific committees already met
The first body met for the first time on January 25, 2021 and will coordinate the implementation and introduction of the Nutri-Score system.
The committee is composed of representatives from the authorities responsible for Nutri-Score implementation in each country. The goal is to facilitate through common procedures the use of Nutri-Score to food companies.

An extended nutritional value color code
Nutri-Score is a voluntary extended nutritional value characterization system based on a color code. It is located on the front of the package and indicates the nutritional value of foods and beverages.
In addition to nutritional recommendations, Nutri-Score is a reference tool that helps consumers make healthy choices when shopping, as well as motivating the food industry to improve the nutritional quality of the foods offered.
Numerous scientific studies demonstrate the effectiveness of Nutri-Score in comparing the nutritional value of products in the same food group.
Clearer packaging information
Information on food packaging is generally difficult for consumers to understand, Nutri-Score on the other hand allows them to immediately see the total nutritional value of a food.
Based on strong scientific evidence that Nutri-Score is more effective than other systems, France launched and implemented the system in October 2017. Subsequently, Belgium adopted it in April 2018.

Towards coordinated and efficient management
Implementation of the transnational coordination mechanism will allow for coordinated and efficient management of Nutri-Score.
In Switzerland, the Federal Office of Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs (USAV) has been supporting Nutri-Score since September 2019.
To date, 34 Swiss manufacturers and retailers have committed to introduce Nutri-Score, 56 brands and over 1300 products are already or will soon be characterized with the Nutri-Score label.
