Pratteln-Augst tramway: the Swiss government gives its approval

BLT Baselland Transport AG will have until 2025 to extend the public railroad line and connect the development poles “Grüssen” and “Salina Raurica”

The BLT Baselland Transport AG (BLT) has received approval from the Swiss Confederation to extend the streetcar line 14 from Pratteln to Augst.
At its meeting on March 5, 2021, the Federal Council adapted the BLT’s infrastructure concession to this effect.

Applies to the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft.

Streetcar 14 of BLT Baselland Transport AG currently runs from the border between the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft via Muttenz to Pratteln.
With the extension of the concession, the BLT will be able to extend the line to Augst. The aim is to link the “Grüssen” and “Salina Raurica” development areas.

The BLT now has until the end of 2025, when the extension approved by the Federal Council expires, to submit the necessary documents for the planning approval procedure to the Federal Office of Transport (FOT).

Three-year margin after construction approval

Construction is expected to begin three years after the decision approving the plans becomes final.
The extension of the concession granted by the Federal Council is only one of the prerequisites for the tramway extension and does not guarantee its completion.
At the end of 2020, a referendum will be launched to oppose the credit granted by the Basel-Stadt cantonal council for the planning work. The citizens of the canton will then vote on the project.
