The Syrian conflict, with its devastating effects, is also having an impact on neighboring countries. More than 5.5 million people have fled Syria and found refuge in neighbouring countries, according to the UN.
Since 2011, Switzerland has provided around CHF 522 million to counter the devastating effects of the conflict on the population in Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. This is the largest humanitarian intervention in the history of our country.
The search for a political solution should be encouraged
In addition to humanitarian aid, Switzerland is also engaged in the diplomatic field to contribute to the search for peace in Syria.
Switzerland has a direct interest in promoting peace, human rights, the protection of people in need and stability in the region. For this, it relies on the instruments of its peace policy.
