At the fourth Export Roundtable, Swiss President Guy Parmelin discussed current challenges with representatives of the industry.
While noting a phase of economic recovery, uncertainties remain, and participants stressed the importance of opening up markets, particularly in the production and distribution of vaccines.
Right now, exports are benefiting from growing international demand.

The strongly export-oriented Swiss economy continues to depend on favorable framework conditions.
To be successful, vaccination campaigns worldwide need open markets, minimal trade barriers, low customs duties and efficient logistics.
Important topics for exports, such as the institutional framework agreement with the European Union, improving access to foreign infrastructure projects, curbing regulation or relieving companies of regulatory costs, were discussed during the panel discussion.

The March 7 vote on the Economic Partnership Agreement with Indonesia was also discussed.
Participants agreed that the positive outcome of the referendum, though by a narrow margin, should be carefully analyzed so that these agreements continue to enjoy majority support in the future.
Efforts to reconcile trade and sustainable development should be continued and strengthened, and the value and mechanisms of these agreements should be openly communicated.

The meeting, held online, was attended by representatives from 22 business associations and chambers of commerce, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE), and Swiss Export Risk Insurance (SRE).
