In Switzerland twenty-four months of reduced work allowance

On May 12, 2021, the Federal Council decided to extend the entitlement to ILR, in addition to the extension of the summary counting procedure

During the spring session 2021, the Swiss Parliament delegated to the Federal Council the competence to extend the maximum duration of entitlement to the Reduced Work Allowance to 24 months in cases where the continuation of the pandemic and the associated economic restrictions make this measure necessary.
For the first time since 2009, ILR is again extended to 24 months. On May 12, the Federal Council decided to return to this possibility, which is now included in the “COVID-19 Unemployment Insurance” Ordinance.
The decision was taken taking into account the different scenarios of the labor market.

Three-month extension of the summary billing procedure

In addition to extending the maximum duration of entitlement to ILR from 18 to 24 months, the Federal Council intends to allow a three-month extension of the summary procedure for calculating the benefit until the end of September 2021.
The other measures in the COVID-19 unemployment insurance ordinance are limited to the end of June; the Federal Council will also decide next month whether they should be extended due to the economic restrictions dictated by the pandemic.
The full adjustment will be submitted to the Federal Council by the end of June 2021.
The government’s decision will be determined by the epidemiological development in the coming weeks and the resulting relaxation of the restrictions imposed on the economic sector as well as the effects these will have on the labor market.
