Switzerland is with the International Labour Organization<\/h1>\n

Guy Parmelin announces membership in “Alliance 8.7”, a global platform established to combat child and forced labor as well as human trafficking<\/em><\/h3>\n

On April 1, 2021, the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, received the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Guy Ryder.
\nIn the presence of employers’ and workers’ associations, Parmelin and Ryder signed the new development cooperation agreement between Switzerland and the ILO.<\/p>\n

The President of the Confederation also announced Switzerland’s membership in the “8.7 Alliance”, a global platform established to combat child labor, forced labor and human trafficking.
\nThe new agreement between Switzerland and the ILO, aimed at ensuring a coherent Swiss policy towards the ILO and its programmes, defines the country’s strategic priorities for joint development cooperation activities.<\/p>\n

Actions consistent with the strategy adopted in 2013<\/h4>\n

The agreement concretizes the strategy towards the ILO adopted by Switzerland and the social partners in 2013.
\nThe text, which replaces that of 2016, also takes into account contextual changes in development cooperation, in particular the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the ILO Centenary Declaration on the Future of Work and the global employment crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

The President also announced Switzerland’s membership in the “8.7 Alliance”, a global platform which, in accordance with Development Goal 8.7 of the UN Agenda, aims to improve the state of knowledge in the areas of child labour, forced labour and human trafficking, as well as to foster greater cooperation and promote appropriate measures.
\nWith this membership, Switzerland is fulfilling a promise made during the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour.
\nAt the bilateral level, Director General Ryder and President Parmelin, whose name is curiously enough Guy, discussed how to continue technical cooperation in the fight against child labor, forced labor and human trafficking and how to deal with the global employment crisis.<\/p>\n
