Inaugural meeting in Lugano between Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis and the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the tiny Alpine Principality, Dominique Hasler<\/em><\/h3>\n

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis received in Lugano for the first time Dominique Hasler, new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sport of the Principality of Liechtenstein.
\nIt is the first official working visit of the new Minister in Switzerland. The talks covered cross-border and bilateral relations as well as European and international issues.<\/p>\n

During the official meeting, Federal Councillor Cassis and Minister Hasler highlighted the traditionally friendly and particularly close relations between the two countries.
\nThe first visit of the new Foreign Minister of the Principality of Liechtenstein to Switzerland just a few weeks after taking office is a further expression of these excellent relations.<\/p>\n

Minister Dominique Hasler is the former Minister of the Interior, Education and Environment of the Principality of Liechtenstein.
\nAfter the elections in February 2021, she was sworn in as the new head of the Principality’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sports.
\nClose cooperation between neighboring states, especially in times of crisisThe Swiss Foreign Minister and her new Liechtensteinian counterpart agreed that the COVID-19 pandemic clearly showed the importance of good and close cooperation between neighboring countries.<\/p>\n

Maintaining and intensifying relations with them is also a central pillar of Switzerland’s foreign policy strategy.
\nIn this context, cross-border and bilateral cooperation between Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein is to be further intensified.
\nEuropean and international issues were also discussed during the talks. Together with Switzerland, Liechtenstein is part of the Common Economic and Currency Area and has been a member of the European Economic Area (EEA) for 25 years.<\/p>\n

A strong, effective and common multilateralism of the two States<\/h4>\n

Finally, Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis and Minister Dominique Hasler praised the good cooperation within the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the UN, where both countries are committed to strong and effective multilateralism.<\/p>\n

\nIn Liechtenstein the Blockchain Act was approved unanimously<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Subsequently, both also attended the annual meeting of the five German-speaking foreign ministers of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and the Principality of Liechtenstein.
