First visit to Switzerland of the new Premier of Liechtenstein<\/h1>\n

Daniel Risch, the new Head of Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein, met with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, and Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer in Bern on Thursday, April 22, 2021.
\nDuring this first official visit of the Head of Government, who has been in office since the end of March, both sides acknowledged the close mutual ties and emphasized that cooperation is proving its worth even in times of crisis.<\/p>\n

On the table: combating the pandemic and the economy<\/h4>\n

The discussions focused on current topics, including measures to combat the pandemic and economic policy measures to cushion the impact of the crisis.
\nOther topics included the European policy of Switzerland and Liechtenstein as well as economic policy issues.<\/p>\n

\nSwitzerland-Liechtenstein pact on scientific innovation<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The President of the Swiss Confederation emphasized that Switzerland is seeking to promote barrier-free trade and to strengthen the policy of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) in this area.
\nCooperation with Liechtenstein also works very well at the international level.
\nFinance Minister Ueli Maurer noted that cooperation on financial and tax policy issues is very good and well established.<\/p>\n

For more than 100 years Switzerland and Liechtenstein have enjoyed a co-operation which, even for neighbouring states which maintain friendly relations, is extraordinarily close.<\/p>\n

There is a dense network of bilateral treaties between the two countries, including the Customs Union Treaty of 1923, which decreed the annexation of Liechtenstein to the Swiss customs territory.

From EFTA\/EFTA to the UN, via the Hague Tribunal<\/h4>\n

The two countries also maintain close and efficient cooperation at the international level, in particular within the framework of EFTA and the UN, as well as within the International Criminal Court.<\/p>\n

Switzerland and Liechtenstein in full agreement on the future<\/strong><\/a>
\nInnovation Park East in the Swiss national circuit<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Since 1919 Switzerland has also been protecting the interests of Liechtenstein and its citizens in all countries in which the Principality has no representation.
\nThe jubilee of bilateral relations was commemorated in 2019 during a state visit to Switzerland by Crown Prince Alois von und zu Liechtenstein.<\/p>\n
