{"id":94871,"date":"2021-03-06T23:10:34","date_gmt":"2021-03-06T23:10:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/svizzera-indonesia-e-cooperazione-nel-quadriennio-2021-2024\/"},"modified":"2021-05-24T17:16:17","modified_gmt":"2021-05-24T17:16:17","slug":"switzerland-indonesia-cooperation-in-the-four-year-period-2021-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/en\/switzerland-indonesia-cooperation-in-the-four-year-period-2021-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Switzerland-Indonesia: Cooperation in the four-year period 2021-2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Switzerland-Indonesia: Cooperation in the four-year period 2021-2024<\/h1>\n<h3><em>SECO will provide $65 million in grants to support Jakarta in becoming a more competitive, resilient and equitable economy<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>On February 25, 2021, Switzerland and Indonesia renewed their development cooperation, jointly launching SECO&#8217;s new Economic Development Cooperation Program with Indonesia 2021-2024.<br \/>\nThe State Secretariat for Economic Affairs will provide $65 million in grants to support Indonesia in becoming a more competitive, resilient, and equitable economy.<br \/>\nSwitzerland intends to support Indonesia on a more sustainable and inclusive development path.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/en\/switzerland-the-fantastic-four-direct-democracy\/\"><strong>Switzerland and the &#8220;fantastic four&#8221; of direct democracy<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/en\/competitivenes-spirit-federalism\/\"><strong>The ethics of competitiveness and the spirit of federalism<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/en\/waldstaette-forest-cantons-swiss\/\"><strong>Waldst\u00e4tte and the &#8220;forest&#8221; cantons at the dawn of Switzerland&#8230;<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/en\/the-presidency-helvetic-confederation-from-1848-to-present-day\/\"><strong>The Presidency of the Swiss Confederation from 1848 to the present day<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To this end, the new program focuses on two main priorities: promoting effective public institutions, particularly in urban areas, and strengthening the competitiveness of the private sector.<br \/>\nParticular attention will be given to small and medium-sized enterprises, as they are the main drivers of employment.<br \/>\nSwiss technical assistance will work in areas such as skills development, decent work, tourism, urban development, and sustainability, including commodity sectors such as palm oil.<br \/>\nGender equality, climate change, and resource efficiency will be the cross-cutting themes that drive Swiss engagement. Over time, the two countries have become close economic and political partners, and this year they celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations.<br \/>\nThese close relations have led, among other things, to the conclusion of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the European Free Trade Association states and Indonesia, which will be submitted to a popular vote in Switzerland on March 7, 2021.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Financial market dialogue between China and Switzerland<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CEPA will substantially improve market access conditions on both sides, deepen bilateral economic relations in a manner consistent with the goal of sustainable development, and further strengthen economic development cooperation.<br \/>\nThe new cooperation program builds on the milestones of SECO&#8217;s previous cooperation programs and is closely aligned with Indonesia&#8217;s National Medium Term Development Plan 2020-2024 and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<br \/>\nIt focuses on high-quality technical assistance, particularly in areas where Switzerland has a proven track record and where Indonesian demand is high.<br \/>\nCommitment to a more sustainable Indonesian palm oil sector.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_88784\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88784\" style=\"width: 840px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-88784 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/La-bandiera-della-Repubblica-dIndonesia-1024x683.png\" alt=\"La bandiera della Repubblica d'Indonesia\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/La-bandiera-della-Repubblica-dIndonesia-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/La-bandiera-della-Repubblica-dIndonesia-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/La-bandiera-della-Repubblica-dIndonesia-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/La-bandiera-della-Repubblica-dIndonesia-1536x1024.png 1536w, https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/La-bandiera-della-Repubblica-dIndonesia.png 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-88784\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The flag of the Republic of Indonesia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Bern and the UN for more environmentally friendly palm oil<\/h3>\n<p>While Indonesia&#8217;s palm oil sector is a major driver of exports and economic development, the rapid increase in production has led to high costs from a social and environmental perspective.<br \/>\nThe Jakarta government recognizes the need to strengthen the environmental and social sustainability of palm oil production, in line with commitments made on the basis of CEPA.<br \/>\nUnder the new cooperation program, SECO will continue to support these efforts.<br \/>\nTogether with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), SECO is supporting the Indonesian government to take the lead in creating an environment in which palm oil is produced in a more sustainable and inclusive manner.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/en\/swiss-monuments-hidden-treasure-to-be-exploited\/\"><strong>Swiss monuments? Revive between Glarus and Appenzell&#8230;<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/en\/europe-small-states-sketched-federalism\/\"><strong>The Europe of the small States and a federalism barely sketched out&#8230;<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/swissfederalism.ch\/en\/download-the-brochure-the-swiss-confederation-in-brief-2021\/\"><strong>Download the brochure &#8220;The Swiss Confederation in brief&#8221; 2021<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A dialogue between all public and private stakeholders has resulted in a national action plan for sustainable palm oil production.<br \/>\nThis action plan was signed and made into law by President Joko Widodo in 2019, demonstrating Indonesia&#8217;s commitment.<br \/>\nIn addition, through the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH), SECO also promotes greater sustainability in palm oil supply chains.<br \/>\nThe IDH is active in six provinces to promote sustainable economic development at the regional level.
