In a coin 50 years of women’s suffrage in Switzerland<\/h1>\n

On April 29, 2021, the Federal Mint will issue a new gold coin with a face value of 50 francs with which to celebrate half a century of women’s vote<\/h3>\n

On April 29, 2021, the Mint of the Swiss Confederation will issue a new gold coin with which it wants to commemorate the 50th anniversary of women’s suffrage in the country.<\/p>\n

The struggle of Swiss women to obtain the same political rights as men took its first steps in the 19th century.<\/p>\n

After a long and arduous journey, the right to vote and stand for election for women finally became a reality in the popular vote on February 7, 1971 with 66 percent of the votes in favor and formally came into force on March 16 of that year.<\/p>\n

In the next National Council election, held in October 1971, 11 women were elected.<\/p>\n

In recent years the proportion of women in Parliament has steadily increased to today’s 42%.<\/p>\n

February 7, 2021 will therefore mark the 50th anniversary of women’s right to vote at the federal level.<\/p>\n

“Swissmint” will celebrate this momentous political event with a CHF 50 coin.<\/p>\n

Applause for the work of Karin Widmer from Bern<\/h3>\n

The gold coin was designed by Karin Widmer, born in 1966, who lives in Wabern (Canton Bern).<\/p>\n

After her education at the “Schule f\u00fcr Gestaltung” in Bern, she worked for several years as a graphic designer and illustrator.<\/p>\n

\nAthenian democracy? It lives again between Glarus and Appenzell…<\/strong><\/a>
\nThe Europe of small states and a barely sketched federalism…<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Since 1995 he has been working on his own and creating illustrations, drawings and comics for newspapers, educational material, books for children and young people and CD covers.<\/p>\n

He also designed the graphics for the “100 Helvetia Europa” special stamp.<\/p>\n

“Swissmint” always in the front line for anniversaries<\/h3>\n

The Federal Mint “Swissmint” mints Swiss circulation coins for everyday payment transactions. For the numismatic market, the Mint also regularly issues special coins and circulation coins in special quality.<\/p>\n

The special coins, bimetallic, silver or gold, have a face value guaranteed by the state and are minted in various qualities.<\/p>\n
