Come un soffio di primavera
\nsei entrata nella mia vita,
\nsto qui solo a domandarmi
\nchi sei tu venere nera?
\nChi diede luce al tuo sguardo,
\ndolce danzatrice del mistero
\nche mi sconvolge il cuore.
\nRitrovo in te la perduta giovent\u00f9
\nilludendomi di bere l\u2019acqua della tua fonte,
\nper accarezzare con il pensiero
\nquella sirena con la pelle ebano,
\ne il profumo di verbena.
\nTi sar\u00f2 per sempre amico, padre o fratello…
\nAnche se le nostre strade si avvicinano e si allontanano,
\naspetto con ansia lo squillare della tua voce
\ne al tramonto della mia vita,
\nsto sognando di poter baciare le tue mani vellutate.
\nChe io possa maledire la triste mia sorte
\ndi essere nato molto prima di te.

Like a breath of spring
\nyou came into my life
\nI stand here just wondering
\nWho are you black Venus?
\nWho gave light to your gaze
\nsweet dancer of the mystery
\nthat unsettles my heart.
\nI find in you the lost youth
\ndeluding myself to drink the water of your fountain,
\nto caress with thought
\nthat mermaid with ebony skin
\nand the scent of verbena.
\nI will forever be your friend, father or brother….
\nEven as our paths draw nearer and farther apart,
\nI long for the ringing of your voice
\nAnd in the twilight of my life
\nI dream of kissing your velvety hands.
\nMay I curse my sad fate
\nThat I was born long before you.
\nI wish I were Petrarch
\nto write the most beautiful poems
\nAnd give them to you like a rose.
