The Federal Council has chosen Christian Levrat as the new Chairman of Swiss Post, continuing its modernization efforts<\/h3>\n

Swiss Post is facing major challenges. Changing customer habits and increasing digitization are leading to a steady decline in letter volumes and payment transactions at counters. The volume of parcels is increasing thanks to online trading, but profit margins are slim and competition is fierce.<\/p>\n

This development has been further strengthened by the coronavirus pandemic. Under these conditions, Swiss Post’s revenues are steadily declining and the financial autonomy of the universal service is under threat. With its 2021-2024 strategy, Swiss Post has initiated a series of measures and a profound transformation process.<\/p>\n

Thanks to his political experience as a national councillor and member of the Council of States of the Canton of Fribourg, as well as his many years of activity as a member of the Commission for Transport and Telecommunications (CTT) and as the current chairman of the Commission for Economic Affairs and Taxation (CET), Christian Levrat has an in-depth knowledge of state-owned enterprises and has always advocated a strong public service.<\/p>\n

Finally, he stands out for his broad understanding of the Swiss reality, with its different languages and cultures. Christian Levrat will step down as a member of the Council of States at the end of September 2021 and take up his new role on 1 December 2021. In the opinion of the Federal Council, Christian Levrat will be able to bring about the necessary changes at Swiss Post while maintaining a high-quality public service.<\/p>\n
