More than half a billion francs in aid to Syria since 2011<\/h1>\n

On the tenth anniversary of the Middle East war, Switzerland will provide an additional 60 million to protect the population and facilitate their livelihood and access to services<\/em><\/h3>\n

Switzerland has pledged an additional 60 million Swiss francs to support the population in Syria and the region that has been suffering from war for ten years.
\nThis was announced by FDFA Deputy State Secretary Johannes Matyassy on March 30, 2021 at the fifth high-level conference chaired by the UN and the EU.
\nHe also reiterated Switzerland’s support for the UN peace process and respect for international law in Syria.
\nSince 2011, Switzerland has provided more than half a billion Swiss francs to help civilians affected by the conflict.<\/p>\n

“We will spare no effort to support Syria on the path to peace,”<\/em> said Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) Deputy State Secretary Johannes Matyassy at the Brussels conference, which was held in virtual form for the second year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
\nA total of 60 million Swiss francs will be allocated to support those affected by the crisis in Syria and the region, which will be used to protect the population, facilitate their access to essential services and improve their livelihoods.<\/p>\n

Switzerland has participated in each of the high-level conferences organized by the EU and UN in response to the political and humanitarian crisis in Syria since 2017 .

The Syrian conflict, with its devastating effects, is also having an impact on neighboring countries. More than 5.5 million people have fled Syria and found refuge in neighbouring countries, according to the UN.
\nSince 2011, Switzerland has provided around CHF 522 million to counter the devastating effects of the conflict on the population in Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. This is the largest humanitarian intervention in the history of our country.<\/p>\n

The search for a political solution should be encouraged<\/h4>\n

In addition to humanitarian aid, Switzerland is also engaged in the diplomatic field to contribute to the search for peace in Syria.
\nSwitzerland has a direct interest in promoting peace, human rights, the protection of people in need and stability in the region. For this, it relies on the instruments of its peace policy.<\/p>\n
