Ignazio Cassis: “Switzerland in my heart, the world as a home”<\/h1>\n

Speech of the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok on the day of National Day to the many Swiss in foreign lands<\/em><\/h3>\n

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, on an official visit to Southeast Asia on the day of the 730th birthday of the Swiss Confederation, wanted to send a special message from Bangkok on the occasion of National Day 2021.
\nThe trip, scheduled from August 1 to 6, 2021 in three different states, was organized in order to cultivate good relations with the Far East and look to the future.
\nHe will visit Thailand and Vietnam, countries with which Switzerland has had bilateral relations in many areas for 90 and 50 years respectively and which are among its most important economic partners in the region, and Laos, with which the government in Bern aims to intensify collaboration in development cooperation. To this end, he spoke not only in German, French and Italian, but also in English for the guests.
\nWith this trip, the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs also wanted to see first-hand how the Swiss community abroad is dealing with the coronavirus crisis.<\/p>\n

Oggi \u00e8 il compleanno della Svizzera. Fin da bambino, il primo agosto \u00e8 un appuntamento fisso nel mio calendario e me ne rallegro ogni volta: Portiamo tutti dentro di noi tanti ricordi legati a questa festa, come\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 illuminare le strade con le lanterne,<\/em>
\n\u2022 osservare la luce calda dei fal\u00f2 e sentire lo scoppiettare del fuoco,<\/em>
\n\u2022 vivere la magia dei colori dei fuochi d\u2019artificio in riva al lago.<\/em><\/p>\n

Non solo ognuno ha i suoi ricordi. Ma anche le comunit\u00e0 linguistiche, ogni Cantone e ogni villaggio ha le sue tradizioni. Tante storie diverse, cos\u00ec come molto diversa \u00e8 la nostra Svizzera. Una diversit\u00e0 che ci arricchisce, un Paese che vive della sua pluralit\u00e0.<\/em><\/p>\n

Questo primo agosto \u00e8 per me molto speciale: \u00e8 la prima volta che lo festeggio all\u2019estero, da quando sono stato eletto in Consiglio federale!<\/em>
\nUn Premier Ao\u00fbt o\u00f9 je ne suis pas en Suisse? Je me suis alors pos\u00e9 deux questions :<\/em>
\n\u2022 Puis-je f\u00eater l’anniversaire de la Suisse comme il se doit, si loin de notre pays?<\/em>
\n\u2022 Et encore: o\u00f9 commence et o\u00f9 se termine r\u00e9ellement la Suisse?<\/em><\/p>\n

Une question pas si simple \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre.<\/em>
\n\u2022 Est-ce sont ses fronti\u00e8res g\u00e9ographiques qui la d\u00e9limitent?<\/em>
\n\u2022 Est-ce que c\u2019est la pr\u00e9sence physique de nos citoyens qui la d\u00e9finit?<\/em>
\n\u2022 Ou encore s’agit-il de parler nos quatre langues nationales?<\/em><\/p>\n

Je peux faire court: il y a une Suisse g\u00e9ographique, qui est loin d\u2019ici, mais il y a une Suisse du c\u0153ur, qui est l\u00e0 ce soir, qui cr\u00e9e ce lien psychologique et \u00e9motionnel avec notre Patrie. Et je sens fort les battements de vos c\u0153urs!<\/em><\/p>\n

Je vous l\u2019ai dit, la Suisse vit de ses diversit\u00e9s: le f\u00e9d\u00e9ralisme, le plurilinguisme, la pluralit\u00e9 politique dans toutes les institutions, la cinqui\u00e8me Suisse, une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 culturelle unique au monde. Tout \u00e7a, c\u2019est la Suisse \u2013 notre Suisse.<\/em><\/p>\n

La crise pand\u00e9mique a cependant emphatis\u00e9 un processus d\u2019uniformisation qui me pr\u00e9occupe, m\u00eame en Suisse. On a parfois le sentiment que la seule diversit\u00e9 encore vraiment appr\u00e9ci\u00e9e est la biodiversit\u00e9.<\/em>
\nSoyons donc fiers de la diversit\u00e9 qui nous caract\u00e9rise et engageons-nous pour le respect de chaque personne qui pense diff\u00e9remment: c\u2019est bien son droit!<\/em><\/p>\n

Meine Damen und Herren.<\/em>
\nIn diesem Sinne \u2013 um diese Diversit\u00e4t zu pflegen \u2013 wollte ich unseren Nationaltag mit Vertreterinnen und Vertretern der f\u00fcnften Schweiz, feiern. Mit unseren Auslandschweizerinnen und Auslandschweizer in Thailand, Malaysia, Kambodscha, Laos und Myanmar.<\/em><\/p>\n

Erlauben Sie mir unsere Landsleute in Myanmar speziell zu erw\u00e4hnen: Sie sehen sich nicht nur mit einer Gesundheitskrise konfrontiert, sondern durchleben auch gesellschaftlich turbulente Zeiten. Ihnen gelten meine besten W\u00fcnsche f\u00fcr eine rasche politische Stabilisierung.<\/em><\/p>\n

Und dem thail\u00e4ndischen Volk m\u00f6chte ich unsere Solidarit\u00e4t im Kampf gegen die aktuelle Pandemie bekunden. \u00dcbertragenbare Krankheiten haben seit Anbeginn der Zeit die Geschichte der Menschheit gepr\u00e4gt. Und sind werden es auch in Zukunft tun. Gemeinsam k\u00f6nnen wir uns aber sch\u00fctzen und solchen Krankheiten vorbeugen.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ich bin aktuell auf diplomatischer Reise nach Thailand, Laos und Vietnam. Und dies obwohl die Covid-Situation nach wie vor sehr unsicher ist.<\/em>
\nAuch in Thailand \u2013 wohin wir vor wenigen Tagen 100 Atemschutzger\u00e4te und eine Million Antigentests geliefert haben.<\/em><\/p>\n

Diese gelebte Solidarit\u00e4t \u2013 sie ist ein zentrales Markenzeichen der Schweiz. Mit unseren Aussenvertretungen bleiben wir vor Ort \u2013 auch wenn es schwierig wird. Und wir helfen!<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 Die Schweiz unterst\u00fctzt die multilaterale L\u00f6sung zur globalen gerechten Verteilung der Covid-Impfstoffe. Das Schweizer Volk hierf\u00fcr bereits mehr als 300 Millionen US Dollars gespendet.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 In Juni haben wir zudem 4 Millionen Impfdosen an die COVAX-Initiative \u00fcbergeben. Davon profitieren auch Schweizerinnen und Schweizer, die sich in Laos und Kambodscha mit COVAX-Spenden impfen lassen k\u00f6nnen.<\/em><\/p>\n
